My Biggest Battle

My biggest battle with my mental and physical health has been…

It’s NOT you versus your body.

Yeah, yeah. We all hear “Be good to your body, it’s the only one you’ve got.” But we hear that from people who don’t feel the way we feel.

We are stuck in a cycle. Taking care of our bodies takes work that we don’t have energy for, but doing the work will give us more energy.

So, what’s the solution? Honestly, I don’t know.

What have I done?

I delegate. I’m lucky enough to have a fiance who is able-bodied and loves me. I can ask him to do small things. He’s understanding. I can say “Babe, I’m flaring. Could you please bring me my water?”

I schedule my self-care. Using that pick-me-up on the weekend helps me conquer the week and make time for myself during the week.

I hack my brain. Water is boring. I have a reminder on my water cup that flashes every half hour. I use my soda stream to make bubbly water to keep it interesting.

I pick the lesser of two evils. Eating is a lot of work, but this water next to me is easier. This candy is next to me and has calories!

And lastly, I give myself grace. It’s not me against my body. God had to nerf me or else I would be too powerful.

Working endlessly disables me. It makes me unable to care for myself or regulate myself. You need a break.
